HISTORY AND TIMELINE OF THE INITIATIVE

  • Spring 2017

    - Discovery of Glen Cove’s Livability Score and the Age-Friendly Network.

     

    - Approval from the Mayor of Glen Cove to apply to the Age-Friendly Network.

  • Summer 2017

    Conduct focus groups and surveys with 40 older adult participants in Glen Cove.

  • Fall 2017

    Establish an Advisory Board composed of local leaders and advocates.

  • February 2018

    Application and acceptance into the AARP and WHO Age-Friendly networks.

  • April 2018

    First Advisory Board meeting.

  • Summer 2018

    Create working groups for the Advisory Board based on expertise.

  • September 2018

    Announcement event to the Glen Cove Community at Senior Recognition Day.

  • November 2018

    Attendance at AARP National Age-Friendly Conference in North Carolina.

  • February 2019

    Begin internship program with graduate students.

  • March 2019

    Begin drafting action plan.

  • July 2019

    Conduct a walk audit with  Vision LI and AARP.

  • October 2019

    First draft of full action plan reviewed.

  • November 2019

    NYSOFA Age-Friendly grant received by Nassau County to establish Glen Cove as Age-Friendly Center of Excellence.

  • April 2020

    Virtual presentation at American Society on Aging Conference.

  • June 2020

    Begin development of Center of Excellence.

  • May 2021

    Launch of WWAD Program.

  • September 2021

    - Presentation at Aging Concerns Unite Us Conference

       in Albany, NY.

     

    - City approves resolution to include Age-Friendly lens in planning, procurement and policy making.

  • MAY 2022

    Launch of the Glen Cove TimeBank.

  • AUGUST 2022

    Approval of the Glen Cove Age-Friendly Action Plan by the City Council and Mayor.

  • SEPTEMBER 2022

    Submission of the Glen Cove Age-Friendly Action Plan to AARP.
