Welcome to our Age-Friendly Glen Cove website! 

Established in 2017 through the Glen Cove Senior Center, the Age-Friendly program strives to  encourage policy and planning that enhance our City’s empathy and support of our aging population and in doing so, improves the quality of life for all generations.  After months of research, surveys,  focus groups and implementation of many Age-Friendly initiatives, the City received Age-Friendly status from AARP in 2019.  With a City resolution in place and a strong commitment to this program, The City also received the prestigious distinction of being an Age-Friendly Center of Excellence by New York State.  

While not the only to exist in the United States, Glen Cove is the only Age- Friendly Center of Excellence on Long Island as a result of the hard work by the community to make the City accessible to people of all ages and abilities. We have been supported by generous funding  from Nassau County Office for the Aging, New York State Office for the Aging, New York State Association on Aging, Assemblyman Charles Lavine and the City of Glen Cove.  Continuing the efforts of the former Program Director, Vincenza Caruso, with a wonderful team of volunteers, interns, a 38-person advisory board and enthusiastic residents, Age-Friendly continues to grow as a community of people who care and support one another – creating programs, policies and connections that engage people with each other and the environment. This is done by increasing access to community events and resources, improving transportation options, walkability, and affordable housing opportunities.  It is our goal to foster a community where people can continue to experience joy and fulfillment as they grow up and grow older!
